Life of your Appliances
With reasonable care and maintenance, your appliances should give you many years of service. Like cars, sometimes you might get a lemon, but a newly purchased appliance does have a ten-to-twenty year anticipated life; on occasion, they may live longer (but we never know -which- will live longer!). Follow the manufacturer's instructions for care and maintenance, and never let the little issues go on to become big issues. The following chart gives you more specifics on appliance longevity.
Expected appliance lifespan in years (industry averages):
- Dishwasher: 13
- Clothes washer: 14
- Clothes dryer: 18
- Freezer: 21
- Range: 18
- Refrigerator: 17
To help your appliance give you its best, after purchase:
- Read the instruction book, including use and care; follow the manufacturer's instructions on use and care.
- Keep appliances clean; if it has coils, vacumn weekly; replace filters as recommended; wipe down with recommended products.
- Record the model and serial numbers in the book and on the receipt; keep all in a safe place; your service technician may require this information.
